Montevideo
Montevideo, the
capital of Uruguay, has a surprising cultural diversity
for such a small population, and is a picturesque blend
of colonial Spanish, Italian and Art Deco styles.
Montevideo is a European-style capital with high-rise
buildings, monuments and large parks.
There is lots to see. On Sundays,
there is a huge flea market which
goes on for blocks and blocks. You can buy totally unique antiques,
treasures that you would never see in the US. Montevideo has an old
section called La Ciudad Vieja, loaded with colonial charm. Its promenade
is a wonderful place to walk. Lunch in Montevideo's seaport. It
is full of local color. And in the evening take a walk on the Rambla.
The Rambla is the promenade along side the beach of Rio de la Plata.
Everyone strolls there in the evening, chatting arm in arm. You will
be able to experience the warm, friendly culture of Uruguay.
