Uruguayans are avid beach goers, and
have hundreds of miles of beautiful beaches to go swimming or simply
bask in the sun. Camping is also another favorite
pastime, and the fishing is great. The most popular
fresh water fish is a type of salmon called dorado.
Salt water fishing yields everything from sole to
mackerel to shark, just to name a few.
Soccer is a national obsession; it
traverses all walks of life and social position.
Throughout Uruguay, you can always find a field or
street with youngsters playing their hearts out.
Horses are a Uruguayan favorite.
Rodeos are routinely an exciting outlet for equestrian
appreciation and talent, to mention nothing of the
colorful dress and open pit barbeques. Polo is also a
favorite sport; Uruguay plays Argentina regularly.
Other popular sports in Uruguay include basketball,
cycling, tennis, handball, and golf. There are
world-class golf courses in the Punta Del Este area.
And of course, Uruguayans engage in the gamut of water
sports.
Uruguayans are also very fond of
getting families and friends together for small feasts
on the weekends. The nightlife is awesome; Uruguayans
love to party! Punta del Este is hopping in the
summer. There are a variety of restaurants, cinemas,
and musical shows each weekend in Montevideo. |
